In an era where every bushel counts, WinField® United Canada remains committed to offering CROPLAN® canola products that deliver high-yield and exceptional functional benefits. This drive for innovation delivers products like CP24L3C, a LibertyLink® tolerant hybrid with an improved pod integrity rating and superior clubroot resistance package. Launched in 2024, CP24L3C is a new canola hybrid offering farmers enhanced flexibility and defence against disease.

Advanced Clubroot Resistance

CP24L3C features a second-generation clubroot package, representing one of the most robust clubroot offerings on the market. It surpasses the existing CP21L3C with its new and improved clubroot resistance, providing farmers with enhanced protection against this persistent pathogen.

"Clubroot, a highly diverse pathogen, can overcome existing resistance optionsover time," explains Martin Carr, Agronomy Manager with WinField United Canada. "If clubroot galls are present in your soil, you have a substantial spore-load population. Continuously planting the same products with identical resistance genes leads to a shift in the spore population over time to a population that is able to overcome the same resistance you have been relying on. This applies to any pathogen, including clubroot and blackleg; that's the problem with using the same resistance genes year after year. Without rotating and using products that have better clubroot packages with expanded resistance genes, you’re not actually going to stop clubroot spore loads from increasing in your field over time.”

Superior Pod Integrity = Excellent Straight Cutting

The new glufosinate-tolerant canola hybrid offers a significant improvement in pod integrity over CP21L3C. With a rating of 7 on the Canola Council of Canada’s pod shatter scale, CP24L3C provides superior pod integrity, allowing farmers the flexibility to straight cut or swath with confidence based on their harvest requirements.

Carr underscores the critical role of pod shatter resistance to maximize yield retention and minimize volunteer canola introduction into fields.

“At the end of the day, we want more canola in the combine hopper. If the pods are breaking open before that combine gets there, yield is getting lost. That’s a huge problem. But it’s actually a two-fold problem because not only have you lost yield (and money!) you’ve now seeded volunteer canola into that field which will require control in the long term. Using products like CP24L3C will reduce the number of seeds going into the seed bank and put more money in your pocket.”

Tools in the Weed Resistance Management Toolbox

LibertyLink canola is a key player in weed resistance management. By diversifying herbicide options and introducing alternative modes of action, it helps prevent weed resistance. Rotating between herbicide types disrupts resistance buildup, extending herbicide effectiveness. In areas with glyphosate-resistant weeds like kochia, LibertyLink canola provides targeted control.

"In certain regions, the weed spectrum makes glufosinate herbicide systems the most suitable option for our customers. Therefore, offering a range of quality CROPLAN products provides farmers with the choice and flexibility essential for managing weed resistance effectively."

This flexibility lets farmers customize weed control, ensuring sustainable practices and preserving herbicide efficacy.

Wide Application and Performance

WinField United considers standability, yield, and blackleg resistance to be table stakes in their CROPLAN offerings; with functional benefits like superior pod integrity and an advanced clubroot resistance package, that allows CP24L3C to fit well in any mid-season canola acre.

“This particular hybrid has a great fit across the prairies; the second-generation clubroot package allows it to fit in Alberta where clubroot is a problem, and the strong pod shatter score means it fits in places like Southern Saskatchewan where  straight-cutting is the norm. Realistically, if you can grow a mid-season canola, this new LibertyLink hybrid will be an excellent option for you.”

Featuring one of the most comprehensive clubroot resistance packages available, alongside a complete disease package and superior pod integrity for straight cutting versatility, CP24L3C is equipped to empower farmers to protect their canola investments and deliver exceptional performance.
